Video tutorial

Once we have seen how to add new images to a category already present in our communication board, it is time to learn how to manage the categories: adding new ones, changing the name, assigning an image to the category, adding images to the category and deleting images.
In order to expand the communication notebook proposed by LetMeTalk by default we are going to add a new category of “Personal Hygiene”. To do this, click on the “+”sign that we have in the upper bar of the main window.

Then click on “Add new category“.

In the window shown below, we write “Personal hygiene” and click on “Yes“.

We will return to the main window of the communicator and we will see how at the end of the list of categories a new one called “Personal hygiene” will have appeared, identified with the icon of some folders.

The first thing we will have to do is assign an image to that category. To do this, we make a long press on the icon of the folders that it has created for us until a dialog box appears. In it we will select the option “Search for a new image for the category“.

The pictogram search box that we saw in the previous chapter will appear. We will write “hygiene” in the search box that appears in the upper right corner and select the pict that interests us in the search results.

Once this is done, the image assigned to our category will change and it will show the one we have selected.

Within the context menu that would appear when making a long press on any of the categories we find other options such as: rename category, change the position or delete category. If we want to change the name of any category that we have already created, we click on the “Rename category” option.

A text input box will appear with the current name of the category and we can freely modify it. In this case we write “Hygiene and Personal Hygiene” and click on “Yes”.

We will see with our category has changed the name.

Another of the most useful options is “Change position” since new categories are always created at the end and because of its importance or because we want to work on that category at a certain time and we want it to be more accessible, we are interested in changing it to higher positions. To do this we make a prolonged press on the category to change position and in the context menu we select “Change the position”. The category will begin to sway from left to right to indicate that we can move it. We just have to drag it to the desired final position. The rest of the categories will be reordered based on the position we choose.

In this case we have dragged it to place it after the “clothes” category.

Once a category has been created, if we click on it we will see that it isempty and, therefore, we will have to add new pictograms as we saw in the previous chapter. To do this, we will click on the“+” button and proceed by following the steps previously seen. Within the category we will add all the words that the user may need to communicate within this area (verbs, nouns and adjectives). Within a category it would also be possible to create a category, in addition to being able to add a pictogram. In this way we can create the structure of categories and subcategories that interests us to classify the vocabulary as it grows. There is no limit in the application in the number of categories and subcategories to create.

If, by mistake, we add a pictogram to a category and we want to eliminate it,we will make a long press on it until the context menu appears. In this case, we want to remove “dishwasher”. Once we have long pressed on the pictogram, we select “Delete image” in the context menu.

The system asks us for confirmation of the draft of the image. Click on “Yes” to confirm the deletion.

If what we want is to delete a category we just have to make a long click on it and in the context menu select “Delete category”.

It will ask us for confirmation before deleting. Click on “Yes“.
