WHAT IS A PROFILE?
A profile contains all the information about the configuration of a certain communication notebook (categories, subcategories, pictograms and images used). A profile can correspond to a certain user or it can be, for example, a communication notebook prepared specifically for a certain situation (eg going to the supermarket).
SAVE A PROFILE
To illustrate how to save a profile, we have modified the default LetMeTalk communicator and added two new categories: “Personal Hygiene” and “Watching TV“.
Within each of these categories we have added vocabulary.
Starting from this new communicator we go to the Configuration area of LetMeTalk and click on “Save Profile”.
In the window that appears we must write the name of the new profile where it says “Enter name”
and click on “Save“.
Once pressed, we will return to the main configuration window and a message will appear at the bottomconfirming that the profile, with the assigned name, has been saved.
If we go back to “Save profile” we can see that it is already on the list.
UPLOAD A PROFILE
If we want to load a different profile in the communicator (either that of another user or one that we have prepared with specific vocabulary for a certain situation, to play a game, to work on essential vocabulary, etc.) we must go to the configuration area of LetMeTalk and click on “Import profile“.
In the list that appears, we will click on the profile that we want to load. The “LetmeTalk PreConfiguration” profile is the one that comes with the application installed by default.
Once we have clicked, LetMeTalk will restart and show us the communicator with the profile we have selected.
AUTOMATICALLY IMPORT A RECEIVED OR STORED PROFILE
If we have received an email with abackup of a profile and we want to import it directly to LetMetalk we just have to click on the attachment in the email.
Once downloaded, a pop-up window will appear in which we should be offered to open it with “LetMeTalk”.
Note: If LetMeTalk does not appear in the list, try reinstalling the program again so that the file associations are restored.
Once “LetMeTalk” is selected, in the options offered by the contextual window, we recommend selecting “Always“. In this way, for future backup copies that we open, it will do so directly with LetMeTalk without consulting us. If you do not want it to be associated automatically, click on “Only once”.
Once pressed, LetMeTalk will open and show us a confirmation message of the import in which we must click on “Import”.
Next, a new confirmation window will open in which we can select any of the two options. If we click on “Cancel”, the profile will be imported but will not be applied automatically. If instead we click on “Use profile” the new profile that we are importing will replace the one that we currently have loaded.
If we opt for this second option, we must bear in mind that the currently loaded profile will be lost if it has not been previously saved. LetMeTalk will be reloaded with the new profile that we have imported.
In the case of having a backup of the profile stored in a cloud storage service, such as Dropbox, the procedure is exactly the same.
First of all, we open Dropbox on our device and go to the folder where we have the backup stored.
Click on the file. A contextual menu similar to the one we saw in the case of email will open. In the list that it offers us, we select “LetMeTalk”. As before we will click on “Always” or “Only once” depending on whether or not we want the automatic association of the “.lmtbackup” files to LetMeTalk.
Once any of these options has been pressed, the import procedure is exactly the same as the one explained above for files received by email.
MANUALLY IMPORT A RECEIVED OR STORED PROFILE
If the automatic import of LetMeTalk profile backups does not work or if we want to make a manual copy of one of our profiles we must resort to an Android file manager program. Normally all devices offer their own file manager. All in all, if you don’t have a File Manager, we can install one through Google Play like the one we propose (because of its simplicity and because it doesn’t have ads).
“FILE MANAGER”
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alphainventor.filemanager&hl=es_419
Once installed we open it by clicking on the icon.
In our case, we will assume that the backup is in the Android “Downloads” folder. If the file is in another path, we must go to look for it first.
Once inside the “Downloads” folder, select the file “CACE_UTAC_LETMETALK_CASTELLANO.lmtbackup”. Once selected, click on “Copy“.
Next we have to go to the folder where the LetMeTalk backups are stored. The path is: $SDCARD/Android/data/de.appnotize.letmetalk/files/backup Inside our file manager, click on the “Home” icon.
Then click on “Internal storage“.
We enter the “Android” folder
“data” folder
We access the folder “de.appnotize.letmetalk“.
and to the “files” folder.
Finally we access the “backup” folder.
Once inside the “backup” folder, click on “Paste“.
Our file will be copied to the folder and the system will show us a message indicating it.
Within the LetMeTalk configuration area, the profile that we just imported manually will appear in the list of profiles.
Note: If we want to make a manual backup of one of the profiles that we have stored in LetMeTalk we will go to the path $SDCARD/Android/data/de.appnotize.letmetalk/files/backup and there we select the file we want to copy. In this case we select “Communicator Maria Pilar.lmtbackup” and click on “Copy”.
Then we must find the destination folder on our device. It is recommended to save it, if available, on an external SD card. In our case, we are going to store it in the “Downloads” folder. Once inside the folder, click “Paste”
The profile file will already be copied to the “Downloads” folder.
DELETE A PROFILE
If we want to delete a profile that we have created, we must go to the LetMeTalk configuration area and there click on “Import profile” or “Save profile” to show us thelist of stored profiles. We will click on the trash can of the profile that we want to delete, in this case that of Javier.
The system will ask us for confirmation of the deletion. Click on “Delete“.
The system will show us a message confirming the deletion.
SHARE / SAVE A PROFILE
A very interesting option is to be able to share or save any of the profiles created so that we can keep backup copies of them in case we have to reinstall LetMeTalk or we want to share the profile with the family or a professional who attends to the user. Profiles are compatible with any device and operating system on which LetMeTalk is offered. This means that the profile files can be opened on different devices regardless of whether the device is installed on an Android or iOS operating system.
To share a profile that we have created we must go to the configuration area of LetMeTalk and there click on “Import profile” or “Save profile” to show us the list of stored profiles. Then we click on the “Share” icon of the desired profile (in this case “Maria Pilar Communicator”).
The contextual window will offer us different options to share the profile depending on our device and the services we have installed. In this case we are going to see two of them: Gmail and Dropbox.
If we choose the “Gmail” option we can send the profile import file by email via Gmail. As we can see in the email there is an attached file with the extension “.lmtbackup“. Once the recipient and the subject have been written, we will click on the “Send” button to send it.
The system will indicate with a message the sending of the email.
If we want to keep a backup of any of the profiles, a highly recommended option is to do it in one of the cloud storage systems such as Dropbox or Google Drive. In this case we are going to save it to Dropbox. To do this, in the list of options offered by the contextual sharing window, select “Add to Dropbox“.
The Dropbox program will open and we will search within our folder structure in which we want to save it. We can also create a new one. In this case, we have selected the “LetmeTalk” folder. Click on “ADD“.
In the upper Android bar we will confirm the upload of the file.
IMPORT UTAC-CACE COMMUNICATION NOTEBOOK
The UTAC-CACE communication notebook was prepared by the Unitat de Tècniques augmentatives de Communicació – UTAC from what is considered the basic nuclear vocabulary to establish functional communication. The original communication notebook consists of about 1,000 terms(850 words and 150 expressions). From this communicator, UTAC created a version for LetMeTalk that they offer us to download for free as a profile backup.
To download this backup we go to the UTAC website (http://www.utac.cat/) and there to the “Descàrregues” section. Within the “Descàrregues” section, click on CACE-UTAC.
If we go down the page we will find a section called “LetMeTalk”. In it we will click on “Baixa” in the file “CACE_UTAC_LETMETALK_CASTELLANO.lmtbackup“.
The direct download link is: http://www.utac.cat/descarregues/cace-utac/CACE_UTAC_LETMETALK_CASTELLANO.lmtbackup?attredirects=0&d=1
Once it has been downloaded, click on “OPEN“.
In the options offered by the contextual window we will select “LetMeTalk” and click on “Always” or “Only once”. We recommend selecting “Always”. In this way, for future backup copies that we open, it will do so directly with LetMeTalk without consulting us. If you do not want it to be associated automatically, click on “Only once”.
Once pressed, LetMeTalk will open and show us an import confirmation message in which we must click on “Import“.
Next, a new confirmation window will open in which we can select any of the two options. If we click on “Cancel”,the profile will be imported but will not be applied automatically. If instead we click on “Use profile” the new profile that we are importing will replace the one that we currently have loaded.
If we opt for this second option, we must bear in mind that the currently loaded profile will be lost if it has not been previously saved.
If we press “Cancel”we see as if we go to “Import profile” within the LetMeTalk configuration will appear in the “CACE_UTAC_LETMETALK_CASTELLANO”list.
If we click on “Use profile”,LetMeTalk will start with the UTAC-CACE Communicator loaded.
IMPORT A PROFILE IN iOS (iPad or IPhone)
The import of Profiles on Ipad differs from the one explained so far for Android. In iOS it is not possible to directly import a profile by clicking on the backup file or sending it via email. The only way to be able to import profiles is to use the iTunes program.
So, the first thing we have to do is download and install iTunes on our desktop computer, be it Windows or Mac. To do this, we go to https://www.apple.com/es/itunes/download/ and download the version corresponding to our operating system. Once downloaded and installed, we must log in with our Apple ID and connect our iOS device (Ipad or iPhone) to the computer using the cable provided by Apple.
Once our iOS device has been recognized and has been synchronized with our computer, we can proceed to import the LetMeTalk profile.
Click on the icon of our device (in this case an iPad).
Once inside our device we click on “Shared files”
and in the list of Apps we select “LetMeTalk”.
Clicking on LetMeTalk will show us the profiles that we currently have installed and if we clicked on any of them, we could save a copy on our computer by clicking “Save in…” (as a backup).
In our case, we want to import a profile so we must click on “Add file…”.
We look for the file of the profile copy on our computer (extension *.lmtbackup), select it and click on “Open“.
Finally, for the new file to sync with our device, click on “Sync”.
Once synced, the new profile will be available in LetMeTalk for use.
