The Municipal Libraries of Valongo have implemented an Alternative and Augmentative Communication system based on ARASAACpictograms.

This initiative aims to respond to complex communication and orientation needs in space, by users with special needs and with difficulties in daily life or social inclusion (for example, autism, intellectual disability, age, lack of language, absence of speech, etc.).

To this end, different rooms of the library have been marked and cards have been arranged at the entrance of the Library with which users can request or learn to use different services of the same (loan, photocopies, internet, films,….).
