What is Asterics AAC?
Asterics AAC is a dynamic multiplatform communicator, free and customizable, which allows the use of pictograms, images and spelling signs to facilitate communication and participation to all people.
As a support product for communication, Asterics AAC has a series of characteristics that make it an essential tool to adapt the communicator to the person, taking into account their age, interests, abilities and the social environment in which they operate and participate.
Asterics AAC allows the use of assisted natural language as a methodology to favor language through modeling, where the adult interacts with the user of AAC, supporting their oral language in the pictograms that are presented in the communication system that we have selected.

The dynamic communicator Asterics AAC was initially developed at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien, within the ToRaDes project, funded by the City of Vienna (project number 18-04).
From 2019 to 2023, the development of Asterics AAC was carried out within the “Knowledge Hub for Accessible Technologies” (WBT) project, funded by the City of Vienna (project 26-02).
Desde 2024 hasta 2025 algunos desarrollos específicos de Asterics AAC fueron financiados por un proyecto netidee financiado por la Internet Foundation Austria (Convocatoria 18).
Since September 2024, Asterics AAC has been further developed within the project “Inclusion through Augmentative and Alternative Digital Communication” at the UAS Technikum Wien, funded by the City of Vienna (project number 38-09).
Since 2022, the Aragonese Centre for Augmentative and Alternative Communication ARASAAC collaborates with Asterics AAC, providing advice on the development of the application and facilitating the use of the ARASAAC API, which allows the search of pictograms in real time and the use of the same customisation options that are used on the ARASAAC website.
